Maizuru flourished as a naval town and is still home to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force Maizuru Base.
The city center around Higashi-Maizuru Station has a grid-like street layout, much like Kyoto.
The north-south roads run from Ichijo-dori to Kyujo-dori, and Sanjo-dori is a main street that extends from in front of Higashi-Maizuru Station and is a shopping street.
Along both sides of Sanjo-dori, there are many stone benches.
By the way, the east-west streets are named after battleships of the former Imperial Japanese Navy, such as Mikasa-dori, Asahi-dori, and Hatsuse-dori, and are known as "Battleship Streets." It's a fitting naming convention for a naval town, isn't it?
