Sakai-Minato City is the hometown of Shigeru Mizuki, the creator of the popular "GeGeGe no Kitaro" series. The JR Sakai Line features trains wrapped with illustrations of the youkai (supernatural creatures) from "GeGeGe no Kitaro." The stations themselves have been given nicknames based on the youkai, and the city actively uses "GeGeGe no Kitaro" to attract visitors.
There are stone benches installed in the rotary in front of the station.
