The south exit (west side) is maintained as part of the "Deai no Komichi" (Path of Encounters), and has a nice atmosphere with monuments.
In the past, the Beppu Railway, a private railway, branched off from Tsuchiyama Station. Perhaps this is a remnant of that time.
