Facing the rotary of the east exit (Yamanami Exit) on the Shinkansen side of Tsuruga Station, there is a grassy plaza that, as its name suggests, offers a view of the mountains. This is a new plaza that was developed to coincide with the opening of the Shinkansen in March 2024.
There are four arc-shaped benches (total of six). Trees are also planted in the plaza, and the southeast side has a gentle slope, designed to allow people to relax by sitting or lying on the grass.
In contrast to the west exit, which faces commercial facilities and tourist spots, this side is relatively quiet. This is because the Hokuriku Expressway and National Route 8 bypass pass through this area, and there are logistics facilities, factories, and farmlands nearby, with the main use being drop-offs and pick-ups by car.
The Kinome River flows alongside the plaza, and you can get close to the water's surface from the stairs at the bridge. The tranquil atmosphere is filled with the sound of the river and, occasionally, the sounds of the Shinkansen and announcements.
Looking towards the station, you can take a good look at the station building with its wall surface, which is designed with a motif of water shimmering in the waves.
Please note that it takes about 20 minutes to walk to the west side of the station, which is quite a detour (there is no free passage, and a ticket is required for a shortcut).
Also, there are no shops around the east exit ticket gates, so it is recommended to get snacks etc. beforehand inside the ticket gates.
