To get to the Hanako the Elephant Statue, exit the JR Kichijoji Station's Central Exit and head to the intersection in front of you.
There's a plaza where the Hanako the Elephant statue stands after you cross the intersection, and there are benches around it where you can sit and rest.
There are wooden benches that can accommodate about 15 people.
Because it's right in the middle of the intersection, there's a lot of foot traffic and vehicles, so it might not be the most relaxing spot.
However, considering how close it is to the station, it's a spacious area, and I think it's convenient for a quick break or for making phone calls when you're near Kichijoji Station.
Please note that since it's outdoors, there's no protection from the sun or rain.
By the way, Hanako the Elephant was the first female Asian elephant to come to Japan after World War II, and she was kept at Inokashira Park Zoo.
She was the longest-living elephant in Japan and there are documentary films about her.
So, why not give this place a try as a resting spot around Kichijoji Station?
