With the construction of the elevated tracks at Niigata Station, the south exit has been beautifully renovated.
The station building on the Bandai exit side remains old, but it seems it will be renovated in 2023. It's a bit sad to see the station building, which still has a provincial city feel, go.
This time, I came to Niigata Station for work, so I decided to look for places to sit down while I was at it!
First, let's explore the south exit area.

I thought, and there was a rest spot right away (lol).
It's called Niigata Station South Exit Plaza, and it was completed in 2009. It's an urban area and is beautifully maintained.
By the way, on the south exit side, there's PLAKA, a shopping mall, and Bic Camera.

The South Exit Plaza has many benches where you can sit and rest, making it perfect for meeting up at Niigata Station.
The benches and trees are arranged regularly, making it geometrically beautiful.

The photos didn't turn out well because it was raining! (lol)
These are square benches that can seat four people. They feature a rectangular design, and I'm curious about the jet-black objects at the ends.
The handrails make it easy to secure your own private space.
You can use this place to eat your lunch box in front of Niigata Station!

Also, it's convenient because you can use Niigata City's free Wi-Fi!
The atmosphere is different from the Bandai exit, and it's a very calm area, so it would be nice to sit on this bench and plan your sightseeing route.
Pen-ta wants to sit on this bench and eat this *Sasazushi* again...
It was so delicious that it disappeared in no time (lol)
So, how about using it as a place to rest around Niigata Station?
