Kitazawagawa Greenway is a great spot to take a relaxing walk and take a break away from the hustle and bustle of Shimokitazawa.
To get to Kitazawagawa Greenway, go straight from the south exit of Shimokitazawa Station, through the shopping street, and head towards the intersection called Daizawa Sanchiro.
Then, go south past the side of Daizawa Elementary School, and you will see the Kitazawagawa River and the greenway.
※If you're not sure where it is, please use the route search at the bottom of the page!

The river once flowed from Akazutsumi to the Meguro River, but the stream has been revived with the participation of residents to the confluence of the Meguro River Greenway.
It seems that the water source is the recycled water from the Ochiai Water Recycling Center in Shinjuku.

This is a guide from Kananana Street to Awashima Street. It seems to be designated as one of the Setagaya Hyakkei (100 Views of Setagaya).

I saw people strolling with their children and people running.
Kitazawagawa Greenway is famous for its cherry blossom trees, and it is said that many people come to the cherry blossom festival during the best season.

Now, as for where you can sit, there were two single wooden benches lined up on the greenway near Daizawa Elementary School.
At first glance, they look like ordinary benches, but since there are cherry trees nearby, they transform into benches where you can enjoy cherry blossom viewing in spring.

The viburnum was in full bloom. I saw quite a few during my walk along the greenway.

"What is this old gatepost behind the elementary school...?"
I thought it was the gate of Daizawa Elementary School, which is under renovation, but the caption read, "Literary monument of Ango Sakaguchi."
Ango Sakaguchi, a novelist, worked as a substitute teacher at Daizawa Elementary School for a year, and the work written at that time was "The Wind, the Light, and Twenty Me and."
And, this is the gatepost of Mr. Sakaguchi's home. I thought it was the gatepost of the elementary school (lol)
Furthermore, there was a message on the gatepost that said, "The dignity of a human being lies in the act of suffering."
Hmm...? I'll read Mr. Ango's book properly next time.

Near the street leading to Daizawa Sanchiro, there were two benches specifically for the elderly and those with disabilities.
I've never seen benches with such wording before. It would have been better to have them as a priority, not exclusive...

There was a Starbucks Daizawa 5-chome store on the Daizawa Sanchiro street.
A store with a subdued Starbucks presence. It's more stylish than a regular Starbucks and also serves alcohol.
Why not take a break here on your way back from Kitazawagawa Greenway?
So, why not use it as a resting place when sightseeing or shopping in Shimokitazawa?
