Here’s a little spot for a break on a remote island, a place that might not be on everyone's radar!
Near the Honjima Port on Honjima Island in the Shiwaku Islands, you'll find a tourist information center. Close by, there’s a "150th Anniversary of the Kanrin Maru's Voyage to America Memorial Monument," and it has benches where you can sit and relax.
You can also find space to sit on the stone edges of the flowerbeds.
By the way, the Kanrin Maru was a ship owned by the Edo shogunate, and it was the first ship to travel to and from the Pacific Ocean. The islanders are descendants of the Shiwaku navy, and they were active as sailors for the shogunate during the Edo period. Around 70% of the Kanrin Maru crew members were from the Shiwaku Islands.
