"The History of Waterworks in Edo"
If you walk along Koshu Kaido from Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden towards Yotsuya-Sanchome, you'll find the site of the Tamagawa Josui Water Gate.

The Tamagawa Josui contributed as a water source for the city of Edo. From the Hamura Intake Weir to Yotsuya Ogi-do, the water flowed through an open channel, and from there it was carried to Edo through water pipes and aqueducts.

There's a magnificent monument here!

And next to the water gate site, there's a small plaza with two stone stools.

The location is where Koshu Kaido and the old Koshu Kaido cross, making it a charming spot, but with a lot of traffic.
It's a little unsettling, but the greenery helps to cover it.
So, why not try using this spot as a rest area near Shinjuku Gyoenmae Station?
