"Fascinated by the Western-style building"
Near Matsue Castle, you'll find the Kounkaku, a Western-style building.
It was built by Matsue City as an exhibition hall for crafts, intended to be used as a temporary residence for Emperor Meiji, but it seems that this didn't come to pass.

The first floor houses the Kamedayama Cafe, which was retro and lovely. I'd love to go there sometime.
And when you go up to the second floor, you'll find a grand hall with a room for dignitaries.
Oh, and you can enter Kounkaku for free!

There are many tables and chairs.
Ah, it was a wonderful space. It has a mix of Japanese and Western styles, with a tiled roof.

High windows like doors and chairs.

A table by the window leading to the terrace. I was captivated by it.
It was a strange feeling to see a Western-style building in the main area of the castle, but there weren't as many tourists as I expected, so I was able to spend a relaxing time.
So, why not consider using it as a resting place around Matsue Shinjiko Onsen Station?
