From Nakakido Station, which is adjacent to Higashi-Kanagawa Station, if you go towards the East Exit and cross the Daiichi Keihin Road, you'll find a canal.
This area is surprisingly full of interesting spots...
- Yokohama Central Market, where you can enjoy fresh seafood in Yokohama
- The rumored redevelopment area, Cotton Harbor
- Higashi-Takashima Station, a JR freight station
- The US military facility, North Dock
are all within walking distance.
Now, let's cross the Daiichi Keihin Road and head towards the Yokohama Central Market, passing by Higashi-Kanagawa Golf Joy.
You'll arrive at Hoshino Bridge, which is the branching point of the canal.

There's a solitary two-seater bench where you can sit and take a break.
This bench seems like a great spot to rest on your way to the market by train! In fact, PENTA used it for that purpose (lol).
Apparently, this area, "Ryugubashi Bridge and its surroundings," is one of the 50 selected spots in Kanagawa.
If you cross Hoshino Bridge and continue for a while, you can reach Ryugubashi Bridge, where you can see beautiful sunsets over Yokohama.

This is the view of the canal. In the distance, the Bay Area's tower apartments stand, which is Cotton Harbor.
...It's the kind of desolation with a sense of inorganicness that I can't resist.

In the foreground is a waste disposal facility, and in the right-hand haze are the InterContinental Hotel and Landmark Tower.
Hmm, this contrast that you often see in Asia is great (sorry).

I took a photo of the waste disposal facility and Cotton Harbor from JR East's freight facility.
It seems that a condominium is going to be built in Cotton Harbor for the first time in 12 years, and construction work was underway.
I want to go to the redevelopment area that's isolated from the station... but it's far, so I haven't been able to go yet.
Please enjoy the nostalgic stroll around the area and the seafood at Yokohama Central Market! It's highly recommended!
You can check out the article on the market "Central Market Street" for more information!
So, why not use this area around Nakakido Station as a place to take a break?
