To get to the Tabata Fureai Bridge, go out the north exit of Tabata Station and it's located next to Atre Vie on your right.

Look for the red brick relief with "Tabata Fureai Bridge" written on it.
At first glance, it may seem like an ordinary bridge, but...
It's actually a historic bridge that can be considered a sightseeing spot in Tabata.

It's a bridge that feels like a plaza, and I could enjoy a pleasant walk there.
That's because it was renovated in 1992 as the "Tabata Fureai Bridge," equipped with the functions of a plaza in front of the station, due to the aging of the old Tabata Ohashi Bridge.
It was originally the old Tabata Ohashi Bridge, a fully welded bridge that utilized shipbuilding technology.
Using technical terms, it's called "cantilevered lower chord girder three-span Gerber-type all-welded bridge"
(Sounds cool if you can say it fast!)
It is said to have been famous as the first and largest all-welded bridge in the East!
Such history in Tabata... Bridge fanatics rejoice!
I got a bit carried away and digressed, but of course, there were places to sit and rest.

Along the planting, there were winding stone benches.
Perhaps around 80 people can use them.
When I visited around 16:00 in July, it was "Hot!"
The seating surface with good sunlight seemed to have gotten quite hot, haha.
But, if you use the benches under the elevated bridge, you can rest in the shade, and it's spacious and comfortable for a place in front of the station, making it perfect for a break in Tabata.

As you proceed towards the elevated bridge, a beautiful golden statue welcomes you!
The creator is Fusho Kawasaki, and the work is titled "Hana (Flower)."
And, this golden statue "Hana" is also famous around Tabata, and it transforms into Santa during the Christmas season!?
This way, you won't be lonely even if you have a solo Christmas in Tabata!
Rather, it's like Santa, so I'll plan to revisit around December, haha.
...And when I looked around for Tabata-related items, I found a stamp of the golden statue! lol

This is the direction of Hotel Mets Tabata.
As a place of relaxation for the residents, the railings and the central part were landscaped with flowerbeds.
The area under this Tabata Fureai Bridge is used as a maintenance base for the Shinkansen, so it's also worth seeing for railway enthusiasts.
Oh yes, at the middle of the bridge, a wheel and coupler cover, and a point lever were on display, so Tabata is truly a sacred place for railways.

At the end of the bridge, in the direction of Higashi-Tabata, a statue peeked out. (A little scary)
The caption stated that Hotel Mets Tabata manages the flowerbeds.
So, that was an introduction to the historic Tabata Fureai Bridge!
It's right in front of the station, making it a convenient resting spot to meet up in Tabata.
It also seems like a great place to eat lunch near Tabata Station♪
Why not try using it as a place to rest near Tabata Station?
