There's an area with public art called Far East Tachikawa near the north exit of Tachikawa Station.

This is "Ear Chair" by Yukio Fujimoto.
It has a beautiful form.

It's a functional art piece, so you can actually sit on it!

If you look closely, you'll see pipes at the position of the ears.

It's designed so you can hear the sounds of the city through the pipes.
"It's a device for listening to the invisible form of air. The city is made not only of what you can see, but also of what you can't. The sounds created by these environments, whether noisy or quiet, reach your ears through the pipes. The resonance of the pipes then creates a unique, humming sound."
That's what the artist says.
Why not sit down and experience what kind of sounds you can hear?
Also, the bench nearby is also recommended.
So, how about using these as rest areas around Tachikawa Station?
