To get to Takashimaya Tachikawa, head towards the north exit of Tachikawa Station and go to the pedestrian deck where you'll see a large vision screen.
Walk straight through the deck next to Isetan, and you'll see Takashimaya after passing Excelsior and Loft.
Enter Takashimaya from the deck on the 2nd floor, and take the elevator to the 9th floor, where you'll find a restaurant area called "Tachikawa Garden Tables."
And, there is a seating area on the garden terrace near the escalator in the center of the floor.
(As of February 2025, eating and drinking is prohibited.)

There are 6 four-seater tables and 3 three-seater iron benches.
It might be a bit difficult to see in the photos, but the entrance side of the terrace is a garden, and the back is the terrace itself.
The garden side has gravel, and the area with tables has a wooden deck, which is truly a hybrid of a garden and a terrace.
Note that the rest area is not as spacious as you might expect.
This is because, as I'll explain later, the escalator in the center of the terrace divides it into two sides.
However, with various clever touches like plantings and planters, you can relax in nature.
Impressive, as you'd expect from a department store!
Now, let's focus on the tables.

Wooden tables with aluminum chairs are provided.
They were just the right size for organizing your luggage, reading a book, or opening up your laptop.
Since there's a lot of overhang above this rest area, it seems you can avoid direct sunlight depending on the time of day.
When I checked around 1:00 PM in July, it was half in the shade as shown in the photo.
On the opposite side of this rest area, there's a similar terrace with a smoking area.
Let's take a look at the floor guide of Takashimaya to understand what I mean.

From the Takashimaya Official Floor Guide
There is an escalator in the middle of the floor, and the terrace on the Chinese restaurant side on the right is the smoking area.
And there is also a place to sit and rest on this terrace.

There are 2 four-seater tables set up.
This had a different atmosphere from the garden + terrace hybrid mentioned earlier.
The floor is tiled, giving it a more European feel, like something you'd see in Italy.
The seating comfort was similar to the first area.
※ Regarding smoking, there is a dedicated space near the entrance of the terrace, so you cannot smoke at these tables.
So, it's a convenient rest area to remember when you want to take a break at a table near Takashimaya!
It's also a great spot for families with children.
Personally, I prefer the terrace on the side without the smoking area mentioned at the beginning.
Why not use it as a place to rest in the Tachikawa area while shopping at Tachikawa Takashimaya?
