On the south exit side of Toyama Station, you'll find the Light Rail, Toyama Castle, the Toyama Prefectural Government Office, and the Toyama City Hall.
Locals often shorten Toyama Chiho Railway to "Chitetsu," which initially made me think it was the subway (haha).
Now, let's take a look at the plaza across the main street from the south exit.
It's in front of the Excel Hotel Tokyu and Hotel α1.

There's a bronze statue of a medicine seller in the plaza.
Toyama's medicine sellers are famous for traveling throughout Japan to replenish people's home medicine supplies.
It brings to mind the image of a paulownia medicine chest that you might find at your grandmother's house.

The object has a lot of attention to detail, and the wistful back view is wonderful.

Well, the monument plaza has many square stone benches.
There are grooves in the benches, as if they are wrapped, and I wonder what they represent.
There was a fountain nearby, so is it a waterway or a medicine chest?
It seems like a good place to sit and take a break near Toyama Station.

Next to the medicine seller, there's a plaza with the "Peace Group" sculpture, which is an open spot.
There are many of the same benches as before, making it convenient for eating lunch or meeting someone near Toyama Station.

The Peace Group from the side. The scale is quite large.
This is a bronze statue that can be said to be a symbol of Toyama Station.

The Peace Group from the front.
It was originally made of concrete, but it was renovated in 1990 and became a bronze statue due to aging.

Nearby, there was a "Cyclo City Toyama" rental cycle station, commonly known as "Avire."
The station in front of the Peace Group is called "Toyama Station South ①."
A one-day pass is only 300 yen (plus a deposit of 700 yen, which will be refunded upon return)!
It seems like a good idea to use it when sightseeing around Toyama or going to Canal Park ♪

I thought the design looked European, and it seems to be inspired by a rental cycle system in France.
For detailed usage instructions, please check the official website "Cyclo City - Toyama".
So, why not use these areas around Toyama Station as places to take a break?
