Behind LaLa Square, located on the west exit of Utsunomiya Station, lies the Oshu Kaido road and the Tagawa River, a large river that is part of the Tone River system.
I found a place along the Tagawa River where you can sit and take a break.

There were stone stools and benches around the trees. I also saw some benches that could seat two people.

As the map shows, this rest area is located behind LaLa Square, between the Saiwai Bridge and the Miya Bridge.
Many bridges connect JR Utsunomiya Station and Tobu Utsunomiya Station over the Tagawa River, so you might enjoy a stroll across the bridges.

It's also close to Utsunomiya Station, so it would be nice to have a picnic while looking at the Tagawa River.
Also, it's recommended as a cherry blossom viewing spot near Utsunomiya Station during the cherry blossom season. Because...

Weeping cherry trees are planted along the Tagawa River for 950 meters! It's a rest space I'd love to visit again during cherry blossom season.
If you're closer to Utsunomiya Station, the benches on the pedestrian deck are convenient for meeting up with someone.
So, why not use this as a place to rest around Utsunomiya Station?
